18 days and counting…..

Oh my gosh 18 days and counting!!!!! When I first applied for Invictus Games I just thought “what have I got to lose, I’m sure I won’t get picked anyway…..” I had never competed in any sporting competition, I had put on quite a few pounds, no stones, let’s be honest. When I received the email saying I qualified and could take part the world fell out of my bottom!!!! I was so nervous on my first camp and so bloody unfit. I turned up at Newport Velodrome and I was blowing out of my bum after the first session. It was sooo hard and felt so out of my depth. I got chatting to a lovely lady called Michelle who helped me through the weekend. I am very blessed to now call her a true friend for life. I left the weekend with doubts but kept turning up to training because being around military banter and great people again was truly fabulous. Knowing I had to train daily made me also eat properly because until then I mainly lived on biscuits and toast. Having amazing GB Coaches like Hannah & Ben has ensured I pushed myself to levels I never new I had. I know many of us said “I probably haven’t got through and it’s ok if I havent” but it came from the heart when the words left my mouth. Receiving the call to say I’d qualified and will be part of the team was just the best news EVER. I couldn’t believe it and to be honest it still hasn’t really hit me. I have been focused on the next training camp and on PBs so I haven’t really been thinking of the games. Next weekend I will be embarking on my last training camp and then it’s the games. I feel so blessed to have been in this privileged position, representing #teamGB in rowing & powerlifting, along with some truly inspiring, brave individuals. It just doesn’t feel real, these things just don’t happen to me.

I am blesssd with having some wonderful family & friends who have been encouraging me throughout this process. You have all been very patient when I haven’t been able to come out to play. You have all spurred me on and given me the strength to push through. I just so wish my grandad could have been here to see it all but I know he is watching over me. I’m going to seriously smash this with a PB and anything that may come from that would be an added bonus. I already have my gold medal.
